Northern Ballet Hospice Project

Click here to read the article which was published in Yorkshire Life in March 2015.

The START Hospice project works to engage young people who are in hospice care in a wide range of arts experiences.

Northern Ballet and Martin House Hospice team up to give young people with life limiting conditions and their families, the opportunity to experience, participate in dance and movement.

During the project, families attend rehearsals and professional performances by Northern Ballet and take part in creative movement workshops inspired by the productions, giving them the opportunity to explore and be creative together.

This year we introduced participants to photography through workshops which covered fundamental principles and used them to discover different ways that photography can capture movement and feelings.

Over 3,000 images were taken during the 2014 project with 1,500 being posted on an on-line gallery. The very best were then selected by the families for an exhibition which is on display it Northern Ballet's headquarters in Leeds.
